NAVARRO COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) – A 14-foot fishing boat crowded with six members of a family capsized on a Navarro County stock pond Saturday evening, killing two people and sending a toddler to the hospital.
Both adults on board, 25-year-old Francisco Gomez and 43-year-old Fernando Rodriguez, drowned.
Three of the children in the boat were quickly rescued, but the two men and a a two-year-old boy went underwater, according Navarro County Sheriff Elmer Tanner.
Family members said the two men, the toddler’s father and uncle, frantically searched for the toddler underwater.
The child was saved and taken by air to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. The boy’s family said he was released and went home Sunday evening.
The two men’s bodies were later pulled from the water by first responders.
